A book review: Every Summer After by Carley Fortune

Book Summary

A friends-to-lovers trope during summertime, a combination of Love & Other Words, People We Meet on Vacation, and The Summer I Turned Pretty! Percy and Sam are neighbors who hang out every summer when Percy goes to her lake house with her family. They bond over favorite movies, friendship bracelets, and of course, swimming in the lake. As they get closer, feelings start to arise with drama and tension, causing their friendship to grow distant. Years later, a moment of grief reunites them and they reminisce on memories, including the one heartbreak that tore their friendship apart.

Book Review

I’ve heard nothing but great things about this story and I support the hype! I'm not the biggest fan of PWMOV but LAOW is one of my favorite books so I knew what was to be expected. Fortune's writing is SO SMOOTH as far as her descriptions of how a character feels. there are moments of funny writing too. I never wanted to put the book down! Although it was a tad predictable and I had a feeling that what happened, happened, I was still shocked. Did I support what happened? No, but I still wanted to find out if Percy & Sam were able to move forward from their past.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.⭐️ (4.5) :

☀️ Past & present chapter timelines between Percy and Sam as teens and adults

☀️ Single POV chapters from Percy’s perspective

☀️ The ending felt rushed to me but it was still cute

☀️ I read this book in four days 🫢

☀️ All the summer vibes, a great summer book recommendation!

Enjoy & Happy Reading!
