A Book Review: The HouseMaid by Freida McFadden

Book Summary

This suspenseful story follows Millie, a young woman who lives in her car and is completely broke after serving some jail time. After quitting her last job, she has an interview with Nina Winchester, a rich housewife looking for a housemaid to clean their elegant home and care for her daughter. Once she secures the job, Millie observes Nina's perfect life which includes her attractive husband, Andrew. Everything is too good to be true until one night, Mille discovers that the attic bedroom she now resides in only locks from the outside, finding herself trapped, confused, and scared. Little do the Winchesters know of Millie's past and can survive anything...

Book Review

This is a good book to keep the reader intrigued and a LOT of WTF moments, but honestly, nothing jaw-dropping. I'm not sure if I've just read so many other psycho-thrillers that actually fulfilled that reaction, but for me, there was no shocking factor. Some moments were predictable but it's still an entertaining story and a good introduction to this author. I'm not sure if I really need part two though.

3.5 ⭐️

- POV chapters from 2 characters and divided into parts

- Satisfied with getting POV chapters from one character in particular

- Decent writing

- Kept me guessing but again, somewhat predictable and lacked a shocking element

- 300 + pages, an easy read

Happy Reading!
