The Break-Down:
A collection of poetic writing that literally comes from what the left and right brain are thinking as well as our hearts. This poetry book is for anyone who has experiences between choosing what is logical (left) and creative (right) while fighting for what your heart truly wants. The name speaks for itself; thoughts our brains are communicating with our hearts and vice versa to come to a mutual understanding of our feelings. My good friend, Andie, poured her emotions on every page from the last ten years of her life and reading her entries allowed me another opportunity to get to know her even better. She even illustrated the beautiful cover herself!
Review:
I was instantly hooked from the title of this poetry collection. From this, I knew I would also fall in love with the titles of each poem and I am happy to say that I was not disappointed. Personally, they are the first things I look at when skimming through a poetry book just to see if any of them particularly stick out to me by being the most relatable, or I become excited to get to the one that intrigues me the most. Each page captivates real, strong feelings that were relatable and can identify with anyone reading this book. It speaks in ways that make sense emotionally and conscientiously. The transitions flowed smoothly between different emotions of hurt, anger, and love, processing it all as if you were feeling these sensations yourself. The personification between the brain and the heart having conversations made the imagery shine exquisitely.
I am beyond proud of my friend for being so brave to share her personal thoughts with the world. I cannot wait to see if she has any more poems or other types of writing to come into fruition. I recommend this to anyone who is a fan of poetry but the great thing about this book is that it can relate to anyone!
