It Ends With Us By Colleen Hoover Book Review

It Ends With Us by Colleen Hoover is a heart-breaking romance novel about the difficult challenges of overcoming a damaging relationship. Lily Bloom falls in love with Ryle Kincaid, a gorgeous neurosurgeon who seems to be a perfect and amazing life partner. After finding her soulmate and making her dreams of opening a floral shop a reality, Lily feels that everything coming into existence is too good to be true. She discovers that her life is unexpectedly similar to the frightening situations she grew up in. Parts of her past start to unravel including her first love, Atlas Corrigan. The past intertwining with her present makes Lily start questioning the future she truly wants and deserves. This brave story explores the significant themes of love, pain, and self-worth.

Wow! This was a great pick for my first Colleen Hoover book. This author is becoming fastly popular on Booktok and Bookstagram and I can see why. I knew the trigger warning of domestic abuse before reading it but there were a few parts I did not expect. The title of this book was not what I thought it would actually be about and the ending tied everything all together so well. It was beautiful and bittersweet. I enjoyed the characters and their development, even characters that clearly, the reader is supposed to dislike. This complexity is what kept my attention because of the development that Hoover gives to this specific character ( I do not want to spoil anything so the character shall remain nameless!). I also enjoyed the past of Lily's life told through her old journal entries. The entire story is written in the first person and having personal entries used as the way to tell Lily's past was well done. Hoover's writing is beautiful, simple, and easy to follow this emotional story.

"Cycles exist because they are excruciating to break. It takes an astronomical amount of pain and courage to disrupt a familiar pattern. Sometimes it seems easier to just keep running in the same familiar circles, rather than facing the fear of jumping and possibly not landing on your feet."

I am happy that my first Colleen Hoover book is one that is relatable in an emotional sense. At first, I did give this book a 4 out of 5 stars because as much as it kept my attention with her writing, I was okay to put the book down because of the intense topic. However, this topic is something I've read before with, unfortunately, much worse situations, and not that it makes it tolerable, but it was a little easier to keep reading and to finish the book. I also did feel that one character, in particular, was not in the story enough but after reevaluating the sequence of events altogether, I now understand why. I am changing my 4 star rating to a 5 because as I write this review, I realize that it is a book everyone should give a chance and if you want to get into this author for the first time, like myself, this one is a great introduction to her work.

Rating: 5 stars

Enjoy and happy reading!
