The Last Star Standing by C.G. Twiles Book Review

The Break-Down:

A psychological thriller about Piper Dunner, winner of American Star, an iconic talent show, where her once-famous lifestyle takes an unexpected turn. She has lived her famous dream of selling platinum albums and gaining a huge fan base until a series of unfortunate losses destroy this star's successful career. A decade later after such tragic events happened, Piper is blessed with a new husband, house, and a baby on the way. Fate strikes when she is asked to return to American Star as a judge for the upcoming reboot. This is a perfect opportunity to reemerge her existence into the spotlight of success. As fate may have it, this sounds too good to be true. Piper starts receiving anonymous letters sent to her house stating that she is being watched and her downfall was plotted against her on purpose. It is to believe that a cult is behind this scheme and has put a curse on Piper. Is this true or is everything not what it seems? The letters tell her the only way to succeed this time is by the sinful act of murder...

Review:

This book is an easy read. It is perfect for beginners who are looking to get into this genre for the very first time. The story makes the reader curious enough to wonder what will happen and to start making predicitions, as any good thriller/mystery book does. The story itself is good, however, nothing from Twile's writing stood out to me the most in terms of style or any attachments to the characters. For me, it was pretty predictable but still an enjoyable, light read. I love thrillers that pull you in for the full ride of exciting twists and although I did not get that from this book, I still liked the interesting concept of the story; reality vs. fame and fate vs. luck. It is slow-paced but it really picks up towards the end when the plot begins to unravel and make sense. There is one twist that I did not expect and I was a little shocked so there is still that mystery factor within the pages!

I was fascinated by this book particularly because of its inspiration from the classic talent show, American Idol. I felt moments of nostalgia, reminiscing on nights when I would tune in to every season with my mother and sister. We loved the auditions the best, we had our favorite winners as well as those who still made it after being sent home. My personal favorites are Chris Daughtry, Adam Lambert, Kelly Clarkson, David Cook, so much more! I remember always getting an artist's CD as a gift; I still have my collection stored away somewhere!

My favorite singer today is Ariana Grande. I am always captivated by her amazing vocals, I am inspired by her style, and I really enjoy her music. It is a must to see her in concert every year and to add another perfume of hers to my personal collection. I love collecting vinyls because I enjoy classic things so of course, her albums are a part of my collection I want to continue to grow.

I recommend this book to readers who already enjoy this specific genre, if you are looking for a lighter read, and to those wanting to try something new! It is a long read with thorough chapters.
