The Whisper Man by Alex North Book Review

The Whisper Man by Alex North is a suspenseful, mystery, psychological thriller that will leave you with chills! At least, it did for me anyway! It tells the story of Tom Kennedy and his son, Jake, moving to a new town called Featherbank, after the sudden passing of Tom's wife, Rebecca. In an attempt to start over and have a new life, Tom thinks this is what is best for him and Jake. However, this town has a dark past of a serial killer, Frank Carter, aka, "the whisper man", a creepy man who would lure innocent, young boys out by whispering at their windows at night. Although Frank has been caught, familiar patterns of his past actions begin to take place in the present day. A young boy disappears that is similar to Frank's crimes. Then, Jake starts to hear whispers at his window...

Before reading this book, the reader should be aware of the trigger warnings; alcoholism, child death/murder, domestic abuse, death, and kidnapping. As frightening as these warnings are, there are important themes of fatherhood and respect that can be taken away from this book. There are different relationships connected between several characters and I thought it was interesting to learn about each character's past that affected the present time setting with what was happening. The title of this book is also important to take into consideration because the intentional acts of whispering hold great power as it is portrayed throughout the book.

"If you leave a door half-open, soon you'll hear the words spoken..."

- Alex North, "The Whisper Man"

This thriller/suspense novel kept my attention and became a page-turner instantly! I did have one jaw-dropping moment I did not see coming! It is an enjoyable, fast-paced read. I admire North's writing and he did such a good job in each chapter; very descriptive and full of emotions. I love the first-person narrative that was only used for one character. He did a great job portraying the same story told through different perspectives and Jake's chapters were my favorite!

I recommend this book to those who want to get into a thriller that is not too scary or is looking to start reading this genre for the first time. It is scary enough to give you the chills while reading and it has the perfect amount of creepy vibes. I would read some chapters before going to bed and it probably was not the best idea, haha! I am going to buy his newest book, "The Shadows" too!

Rating: 4.5/5 stars

Enjoy and Happy Reading!
