Where Are We Tomorrow? By Tavi Taylor Black Book Review

The Break-Down:

Alex Evans, a thirty-six-year-old touring electrician, experiences an accidental pregnancy that unfortunately results in a miscarriage. This incident makes her realize how much she desires for a family but is unsure of keeping her career. If Alex really wants to attempt another pregnancy, she will have to change her career and relationship with her partner, Connor, who is not ready nor prepared to become a father again after his own personal struggles. This novel follows Alex's story and three other women she works with; Kat, Brooke, and Lily, who are going through their own challenges along the ride. After an injury at work happens with the famous pop singer, Sadie, they decide to ditch work for a while and rent a house together in Tuscany while on tour, allowing the women to relax and open up to each other.

Review:

I enjoyed this interesting, different story. The beginning was slow for me but the transition of this story picked up quickly. There were certain things I did not see coming. There are themes of women-hood and gender roles between what men are completely capable of doing in this specific career and what women are only capable of doing. The reader learns about this career of touring on a bus as females are surrounded by controlling men. I appreciated the general concept of the story while each character's personal stories intertwined in the midst of it all. Alex and Lily are my favorite characters and their storylines stood out to me the most; Alex's story is sad, one that allowed her to find herself and realize what she truly wants. Lily's story is heartbreaking and quite the opposite where she lost herself but her journey is something important to realize. I wanted to hug them both through the book! I think Alex and Lily are the two main characters to focus on. The writing of this book would have been interesting from the character's perspective but Black did an excellent job storytelling in the third person. I like her writing which is easy to follow and she has a calming tone to her style.

"If you go through life worrying about what other people think, you end up missing your own flow."

- Tavi Taylor Black, "Where Are We Tomorrow?"

I recommend this to readers who enjoy this genre (women's fiction) or who are looking to get into this genre for the first time!
